Catherine's Traditional Yuletide Carol Concert Honours Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary Yuletide celebration at the iconic London venue, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The large audience will enjoy a selection of carols, music and readings from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Focusing on Compassion and Love

The central message of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Attending the event are a couple named the Cordiners, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others," Her Royal Highness stated in a note prior to the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to public life following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Musical Talent and Access

Attendees entering the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers backed by the charitable trust Future Talent, set up with the help of the Duchess of Kent to increase availability of music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been helped by the organisation, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at the evening's event.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now a student at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Sisterly Duo

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will be present at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Among the guests will be people from various age groups.

That will encompass nine-year-old Saphia Turner, winner of a prize for youthful altruism, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for local food charities.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been decorated with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."

This annual carol service will be aired by ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
